HARDELINGEN

The name Hardelingen was already mentioned in 1215. In the 14th century it was the subject of a battle between the Chapter of Tongeren and Louis de Marteal Lord van Werm. It was his son Henri who finally was able to get all rights on Hardelingen in 1396.
The Werm family would keep the estate until 1798 when it was confiscated by the revolutionaries and sold to the family Schaetzen van Tongeren. The current castle is still a remain from the old farm and was remodelled in the 19th century.
