LODEWIJK VAN MALE

There was most likely already a castle on this spot in the 16th century. What we do know for sure is that the castle was inhabited by Lawyer Thomas vander Plancke in the 17th century. The domain is in 1740 sold to Peter d'Hanins de Wierycx. Not much changes to the appearance of the castle until it is bought by Baron Eugene de Peellaert in 1831. He remodels and restores the castle. Between 1884 & 1887 the castle undergoes another restoration in an eclectic style done by architect Pierre Buyck. After this restorations nothing changed to the outside of the castle again. The whole domain is sold to a real estate company who divide most of it in building lots and sells them.
There is currently a hotel restaurant in the castle. So you can visit the castle in that function. You can find the castle in the hamlet Male close to Bruges.
