TIELEN

This castle dates back to the 14th century. It was Hendrik Berthout who moved in the castle in 1370 after his father already took possession of the area in 1320.The castle would stay in the family for 600 years. The 18th and last Lord of Tielen was Filips Frans Jozef Rogier Van de Gracht der Rommerswael. He was Lord during the French revolution and as you know the French put an end to the fief system.
In 1826 the castle was given back to the rightful owners. By that time the heirs were two ladies who undertook some remodeling and restoration. The difference can been seen between the building on the pictures and the one on the engraving from 1680.
Tielenhof is private property but can be viewed from the public road.
